let the memorial weekend celebrations continue

so after having the woods over on sunday evening, we then had another busy day on monday.
jessica, tina and myself went to look at a house that was just put on the market (for jessica and justin) and then we headed off to breakfast. apparently no coney island's were open since it was memorial day so we headed over to laurel park to eat at their coney island and then go to von maur to look for shoes for the wedding. the coney island was open but von maur was not.
after looking at parisian and finding nothing, we then went to claire's for jessica to look for something which she didn't find. a failed trip? you might ask. no. i found a tiara that i will be purchasing soon so i can wear it to the reception. it doesn't say princess, it ways queen. in pink. and there was a matching pink boa. it's awesome.
so we head back to jessica's to drop tina off at her car and then we headed back to our house to get ready for our bbq.
our next door neighbors were having a party and they had a pool and a big inflatable water slide in their backyard. i simply set up hayden's beach ball sprinkler. he wasn't too happy about the fact that i wouldn't let him go next door, but he dealt with it. a bit later the meltdown began. i think it started because his eyes hurt. he kept saying there was water in them, but i'm guessing it was sunblock that got in there after the water. then it was anything and everything else he could cry about. so we all headed in and put the boys down for a nap in which they both immediately fell asleep. jessica and i did too.
when leon and tina came over, hayden woke up a bit later. he ran down the stairs saying "i took a rest and now i feel much better!" it was great. until we told him he needed to pick up his toys before we headed outside. he even had 3 people help him and he still sat there crying and refusing to do it. most stubborn kid ever. seriously.
he finally cleaned up and we headed outside for our bbq. talan woke up and jessica figured since it's redford, she might as well bring him outside wearing nothing but a diaper. he was walking around quite a bit, but i can't wait until it's full time. his feet and toes were all scraped up from crawling around. he also has fallen in love with hayden's tonka truck. he's the perfect height for it and he'll just push it all around the driveway.
we wrapped up the evening with catan and screaming out the window whenever our neighbors would start yelling back and forth to each other apparently about the red wings who are apparently playing in the stanley cup. poor tina sat in silence after seeing we moved the tv out of the kitchen. we realized our mistake and brought it in for her to watch.
after monday being 86 degrees there was a frost advisory last nite and another for tonite in affect. gotta love this state.
it was a great long weekend. thanks to all who were involved in it!

i only got 2 shots of hayden before the meltdown happened and he had to go in for a nap:
as you can see, our backyard sprinkler was nothing compared to the neighbors water slide:
walkin':
he simply wanted to play with the giant beach ball:
he had no idea he would be sprayed by water:
after trying to crawl away without success, he simply got up on his knees, sucked in his gut and panicked:
hayden, tina, leon, dave and jessica:
Teens:
Leens:
dave and jessica. she's disgusting:
fixin' his car:
he loves this truck:

he almost climbed all the way to the top:
jessica and talan. she took him outside this way:
this is the game he made up and thought would be a good idea. all 5 adults sat and watched. surprisingly there was no bad ending. this time at least:

pre-memorial day celebration with the woods

hayden had no school on thursday, friday AND monday due to memorial day, or whatever reason the school decided not to have school only a week before it gets out anyway. so we ended up booking a pretty busy weekend.
on saturday morning, jessica and i went cake testing. nothing like having cake for breakfast!
when i got home, dave headed out to adrian for a co-workers hog roast party. shortly after dave left i dropped hayden off at his friend sebastian's house for his birthday party. that was a pretty big deal for me. just dropping him off and leaving him for a party. sebastian's mom told me he listened really well to her and really only had 1 meltdown, which sebastian did too. apparently, they were the youngest so she made sure to take them aside and do special activities with them. they also jumped on a trampoline which i knew from past experienceshayden would LOVE, and he did. while hayden was at the party, talan and i ran a bunch of errands before heading back to pick hayden up. at trader joe's, talan discovered that he LOVES rasberries. he also liked the mango lemonade they have, and ever since, if i have a glass i'm drinking out of he opens his mouth and starts breathing like darth vader until i give him some. after picking hayden up we came home, ate dinner and then did yard work until bed time. we were all beat by the end of the day.
sunday was a fun day of cleaning the inside of the house and then we had andrew, heather, ellanore, henry and cordelia wood come over for an evening of chicken tacos, kids playing outside and catan, of course.
the weather was perfect so the kids had a great time playing outside before we made them come in and go to bed.
it's always great getting together with the woods and we hope to be able to do it often this summer!

ellanore, hayden and henry. they did end up eating everything they were supposed to if only to get a popsicle and get down to play:

hayden and henry after hayden was having a fit because henry wouldn't stay on "his side":
walking like a zombie:

mmmm. milk:
talan thought it was funny to pull the henry's blanket but henry didn't think it was funny at all:

ella and hayden dancing and watching veggie tales:
henry and cordelia. when andrew was getting henry ready for bed he put on his robin pj's and then said, "i think you should show these to dave and jill" and apparently he said "no, i think just to lady skiver.":

the first of many

dave left early from work last nite so that he could make it to hayden's bowling party. after the party we decided since he had already eaten at the party and it was still early enough we would take a trip to the park.
hayden, as always, loved the slides and quickly met a friend named donald. they chased each other until it was time to leave and hayden was bright red and soaked with sweat, even without all of his hair.
talan would put up with being put on different things, and actually enjoy it for a few short minutes. then he would want "up" which really meant "down" so that he could be on his way. he was leaving little trails all through the wood chips where he would crawl.
it was a fun evening and i think it will be just the first of MANY trips to the park this summer...only 4 more days of school left and i'll have to figure out what in the world to do everyday with 2 of them home all day, everyday!

slides are fun:

hanging out on the jumping bridge:

he liked this jumpy dinosaur thing but only for a bit. then he just wanted to crawl and make us chase him again:

talan loves holding dave's football. this makes dave very happy:
he's always loved the slides:

he's not allowed to go head first at school, so this is heaven for him:
talan was thinking- i wish i could be down there eating wood chips:
swinging with daddy. i almost forgot that putting him in his swing was the only way to get him to fall asleep for naps when he was a baby:

i remember him having trouble with these last year. this year he just flew across them:

where he started wondering where his swing went and why it never went this high:

i asked hayden to try the climbing wall and after some resistance, he climbed it on his first try! my little spider monkey:

it looks like talan wanted to try it out, but really he was just pushing his way through past hayden:
