a few weeks later

we weren't able to get around to doing the tile behind the stove as quickly as i had hoped, but we did get it finished last week. before finishing, however, we had plenty of things go wrong.
i am in the process of also trying to repaint the bathroom but i have to wait until dave can patch a hole that has been there since dave and our friend installed the ventilation fan 2 1/2 years ago. he thought it would be an easy thing to do which is why i had him working on that at the same time as the tile in the kitchen. well, it wasn't so easy after all. he ended up having to patch over the entire electrical outlet, cut a new hole, and then re-wire. needless to say, it still isn't done (i'm hoping it will be finished today).
well, as dave started on that project (oh yeah, after he spent well over an hour installing a new ceiling fan in the kitchen which has LED bulbs for the light and ends up giving off NO light which simply means he now has to take that one down and put up a new one) i decided i would "help out" in the kitchen and remove the plastic piece that was behind the stove. the good news is, it came off very easily. the bad news, and why wouldn't there be since we were having project disaster day, was that when i moved the stove out there was a pop and a spark and then the stove wouldn't work. i was in a near panic thinking about how we were now going to have to buy a new stove. dave ended up going downstairs and finding that it had just blown a fuse. phew.
after i had removed the plastic piece, i gently moved the stove back into place. but then, an even louder pop and bigger spark. we went downstairs only to find that this time it was not a fuse. now i really was in a panic.
because of the day poor dave had he didn't look at the stove until the next evening. he opened up the panel behind the stove and found that one of the wires simply came off. something that never should have happened and was the fault of the people that had put the whole thing together. dave was able to put the wire back in place and tighten all of the other ones and we were back in business. no new stove needs to be bought.
we planned on tiling last saturday and after several things went wrong i figured it would never happen. dave finally started on it a little after 4pm on saturday and actually finished less than an hour and a half later! a day later we grouted and now we can check the kitchen off of the list. well, except for the fan that still needs to be taken down and replaced and then the new tile floor that we plan on putting in in the near future as well.
but it's looking great and dave has done a great job!
