sick in the summertime

about a week and a half ago i went into dave's office to do some work for them, leaving the boys with mom and dad. when i went to pick them up my mom and i talked about how both boys have always been so warm. she stated the talan felt really warm, but when she felt his forehead to see if it was a fever, it didn't feel like it.
so we go home that evening and talan is clingy and whiny and continues to be really warm. i finally decide to take his temperature and sure enough, he has a fever of 104.
we wake up the next morning to find hayden complaining that several things hurt. a bit later he's seeming to be run down and when i feel him, he's also burning up. we take his temperature, same thing. 104.
when hayden was little we NEVER had to go to the dr. he was a super healthy kid. only had 1 ear infection from the time he was born till 4 years old. then, within the past year, he's had 3 ear infections. and about the only thing that gives it away is his fever.
so when fevers hit, i never took him to the dr. nothing they can do about it. just something you need to get our of their system. but now, with all of the ear infections these kids have had, i've become completely paranoid and have no idea when i should or should not take them in.
seeing as though their fevers were so high and it was a friday, i figured i'd bring them in just to make sure. the dr. said neither of them had ear infections, but that is something that can change in an hour. so we were told to bring them back if the fevers lasted more than 4 days.
mom and dad planned on coming over for father's day that sunday and i figured that the fevers should be down by then. they were. to about 102. and then hayden puked. wonderful. the never ending illness. father's day plans canceled.
monday comes and both boys seem to be doing much better. the fevers seemed to be gone and they were acting more like themselves. then, come the afternoon, hayden was lying on the couch not looking well. i take his temperature again and it's back up to 104 again.
thankfully by the next day it was gone and they have been well ever since. it was nice when the weather became cool and we could open up this germ infested house!
so i think we're all back to normal and hopefully will start being able to do some fun summer time activities!
