let the summer begin!

we had a big day on friday....a really big day. we started it off by going to the plymouth sprinkler park to meet our friends jenne, trey and marissa since it was going to be over 90 degrees. apparently, everyone else had the same idea since the park was PACKED. we went several times last year and it was never as crowded as it was yesterday. every couple of minutes you'd have a mini heart attack when you would look around and couldn't find your kid. no worries, i always did end up finding him.
i wasn't quite sure how this day would go seeing as though last year i had an independent 4 year old and an immobile 3 month old. i was able to sit under the shady trees with my friends and have, for the most part, uninterrupted conversations. this year would be different. i now have an independent 5 year old, which is great, but a walking all of the time 1 year old. i also wasn't sure how talan would like the sprinkler aspect. he loves his baths, but the last time water sprayed him, he wasn't so fond of it.
hayden, of course, ran right in as soon as we got there. he spent most of his time running around the sprinkler park and then running over to play on the big hill. he would occasionally make his way over to the towels to get something to eat. but i pretty much didn't see him most of the day.
talan was a little sceptical at first. he wanted to be around the water, but only with me holding him. at one point i was able to finally put him down and he started walking around. when the water would spray him he would put his arms up and wait for me to come get him. never really crying or freaking out, just making it known he didn't really like what was happening to him.
i'm not sure how or when it happened but he eventually became braver and braver and was suddenly walking right through the sprinklers. he'd get out of one, put his fingers up in the air and start smiling and yelling as if he was letting everyone know this was the greatest thing in the world. after this point i wasn't able to get him out of the water.
he probably walked over a mile. in and out of sprinklers. at one point he made his way over to a pair of shoes (he has a MAJOR shoe fetish. he just loves playing with shoes) and then another time made his way over to some older man babbling away at him and trying to get the man to give him some of his pop.
i am a horrible mother and allowed hayden to get a sunburn on his shoulders and back. not even quite sure how that happened since he didn't get burned anywhere else. he actually woke up around 4am this morning and had 101.5 fever! yeah, i felt like crap. but after some medicine and some more sleep, he woke up feeling fine. we'll be sure to reapply suntan lotion from now on!
we ended up leaving a little after 1:30 since we were headed to hayden's new school that evening for the spring fling (you can find those pictures on hayden's blog) and i knew that talan had to be exhausted (he was, as he fell asleep immediately in the car and then when we got home he slept until about 5pm!)
so no, i wasn't able to have an uninterrupted conversation, nor sit under the shady trees, but i did get quite a bit of sun....and we had a great time! i have a feeling we'll be out in the water A LOT this summer!
