ohio sucks, but man they have good amusement parks

yesterday we all drove to ohio so that we could spend today at kings island. a day of roller coasters and fireflight.
once again, fireflight was playing at a festival at kings island so they were able to get us into the park for the day.
mom and dad picked up hayden yesterday morning so they could all drive out and spend some time at the pool. i ended up having to take talan into the dr. right before we left and it ended up he had pink eye. we got him some eye drops and then headed over to pick up dave from work and then the 4 of us took off for the hotel.
hayden got to go to the pool twice that day/evening and we got in around 8 or 9, hung out for a bit and then headed to bed in preparation for our big day the next day.
after a big breakfast, we couldn't wait to get to kings island. hayden was probably the most excited in hopes that he would be tall enough this year to ride some of the bigger roller coasters. rides that he even looked at last year wanting to go on! a boy after my own heart!
after a minor hold up (the front gate people didn't have "the list" with our tickets so we had to wait outside the park for about an hour before we could finally get in) we headed in and had the kids measured. hayden was so excited that he WAS big enough to ride at least some of the bigger rides this year!
we spent a lot of the day in the kids area, once again. talan loved all of the rides, as did hayden...but he kept asking when he could go on the bigger ones! last year the kids area was nick jr. themed but this year it was snoopy...which the kids loved. they recently have really been into charlie brown so they were happy with the changes. talan especially loves the peanuts characters and he LOVED going up and having his picture taken with anyone dressed in character.
at one point during the day, we went down to watch a little show they had with a bunch of the peanuts characters singing and all of that. soon after getting there they asked for volunteers and they pulled talan up on stage. they gave him a washboard to play while they sang "old macdonald had a band" very fitting for talan. i was SO BUMMED because i had left my camera in the stroller which was up with mom and dad so i didn't get any pictures of it...but talan LOVED being up on stage! he stood up there playing his washboard with a huge smile on his face through the whole song.
we all headed over to watch fireflight play and then awhile, a group of us took off to go ride the diamondback. we had someone from the park that was driving us right to the ride so we could get on at the front of the line. unfortunately, a big storm was moving in and they had closed all of the rides down. we ended up waiting for awhile while the storm passed by. in the meantime, poor mom and dad were looking after the kids and talan was NOT happy that i had left him. apparently he had a major fit filled with screaming, throwing himself on the floor and throwing chairs....sorry mom!!!
eventually the ride started back up again and we were able to get on and ride. we headed right back to meet the rest of the family at the drop tower where a group of us decided to get on. hayden was able to ride this one and he REALLY wanted it. i felt like i was going to throw up. i can ride just about any ride, but allowing my 7 year old to ride it is a totally different thing.
we all got on the ride but once talan realized i had left him once again, he immediately started screaming. so in what seemed like a totally chicken move, i backed out and had them let me off. it was a little easier watching hayden on the ride and not having to be sitting next to him in case he panicked and i knew i couldn't do anything about it.
mom and dad were totally freaked out and dad even said he wouldn't have let him go on it. but once the ride was done, hayden had a huge smile on his face. he did admit that it was pretty scary, but he loved it!
after that, the band had to head out for a show tomorrow so we said our goodbyes and then dave took hayden on his first roller coaster...the beast. it's a huge wooden roller coaster that lasts about 5 minutes. in the end, dave said it was a much more intense ride than even the drop tower. he said hayden was a little freaked, but he did great.
while they went and waited in line for the beast, me, london, mom and dad all headed back to the kids area since talan wouldn't let me out of his sight.
london was once again a super champ. it was over 90 out and london basically just sat in her car seat being pushed around in the stroller all day. she slept a little, and smiled a lot. she is really the most easy going baby in the world.
we tried taking london on the carousal and on another indoor ride but she was turned away because she wasn't wearing SOCKS OR SHOES. that's right. even though she can't even sit up...let alone stand up...she had to wear socks or shoes to go on any ride. lesson learned for the next time i guess....
we all had a super fun day and hayden can't wait to go back to another amusement park sometime soon. we are all still blown away by what he did today. so proud!!! and you can tell he's proud of himself too.
we ended up staying until the park closed. we all met up for the big fireworks show and then walked back to our car. we got back to the hotel and gave everyone a bath as they were FILTHY, and finally they got to bed around midnite. another long and busy day, but we have another fun filled day tomorrow at the zoo!
thanks again for getting us in, justin and jessica. we hope to do it again next year!

talan LOVES hugging and having his picture taken with any large dressed up character. first stop of the day, meet linus:
then he had to meet sally:

waiting in line for the great pumpkin roller coaster:

a brief stop to meet peppermint patty:

the swings:

the bumper cars was a first for both of them. they got stuck a bit, but they still seemed to enjoy it:

LOVE this one!:
talan and some random kid driving around while hayden was on a roller coaster with grandpa:

hayden and grandpa about to take off:
just back from their roller coaster ride and hayden loved it!:

he finally got to meet charlie brown. he loves that guy:

we were told that snoopy wasn't here today, so we had to take a picture with a statue. notice hayden wasn't in any of the photos with the real characters, but he didn't mind the statue so much. he's NEVER liked dressed up characters!:
about to take off:

talan and i were in line for this and as soon as they were ready to seat us, he FLIPPED out. i took him out and then he had a fit the whole time dave and hayden were riding. when they were done, he decided he did want to go on and he did.:
riding the train:
